Career Exploration

unnamed (5)McDonogh #32 students had the opportunity to hear from a variety of business professionals on Friday, November 6th. Kicking off the day was special guest, LBJ, co-host of WGNO’s News With a Twist. As a longtime radio personality and New Orleans native, LBJ spoke to the students about working hard. He said, “you have all the tools to be successful…everything to start your path to do anything you want.” LBJ discussed the importance of learning proper grammar and studying literature. He mentioned that he has a different way of communicating while he is with his friends and while he is at work. His education taught him how to do both.

Ms. Harris, a middle school teacher at McDonogh #32, organized the event which included eight industry professionals rotating through the 6th-8th grade classrooms: a news anchor police officer, nurse, attorney, doctor, fire chief, local small business owner, and Microsoft designer. Students were encouraged to ask detailed questions to the guests,  some of which they had prepared ahead of time.  The students asked questions such as “what do you like and dislike about your job?” and “what are all the different positions in a news room?”

McDonogh #32 is dedicated to prepare students for a lifetime of success. Discovering career options will help students make more informed high school, college and career choices.
